The painting done by Pablo Picasso named the Weeping Woman was done in 1937 in retaliation to the bombing of Guernica in the Spanish Civil War and is linked with the iconography in his painting Guernica.
The painting is of Dora Maar, Picasso’s lover and inspiration. Picasso was so fascinated with the topic of the weeping woman, that he revisited the theme countless times that year.
