Reza Sedghi

Reza Sedghi is an Iranian digital sculptor and 3D character artist with more than a decade of experience, who has worked in Iran and, more recently, in Istanbul. He models figures in software such as ZBrush and renders them to look like carved marble or stone, applying the vocabulary of classical sculpture to illustration and video-game art.

Work and recognition

Sedghi's own professional profile lists two distinctions from the online 3D community. His digital sculpture Vestal Virgin on Marble was selected for the "Top Row," the front-page showcase of ZBrushCentral, the main forum for ZBrush artists. He also received a 3D Total Excellence Award for a digital reconstruction of Michelangelo's Pietà, published with an accompanying tutorial. These choices show his main interest: recreating the look of Renaissance and Neoclassical marble in a medium that has no physical material at all.

Medusa on Her Throne

Medusa on Her Throne, dated 2021 and reportedly made as an illustration for a video game in development, is a crowded group rendered in uniform gray stone. Medusa, with a serpent's tail in place of legs and snakes for hair, sits calmly at the center while Greek warriors with swords, bows and clubs rush at her from both sides, apparently frozen in the act of attacking. At the left a blindfolded youth plays a lyre, the one figure safe from her gaze. The composition reverses the classical image of Medusa as a severed head, as in Caravaggio's Medusa or Laurent Marqueste's Perseus and the Gorgon, and presents her enthroned and in command.
