It is not known who carved the beautiful tombstone of Silvia Marini nei De Rogati (1886-1947), which stands in the cemetery in front of the Basilica di San Miniato a Monte in Florence, Italy.
The four children holding on to her legs are shrouded by her cape, seemingly angel-like wings spread wide in protection. Beneath the statue is a carved portrait of Silvia, older than the sculpture. The inscription below the portrait reads, “Mamma, Mamma Mia”.
