The Mona Lisa is a painting done in 1503 by Leonardo da Vinci. It is to be considered an archetypal masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. The Mona Lisa is one of the most valuable paintings in the world.
The painting is said to have been of the Italian noblewoman, Lisa Gherardini, though none know for certain. The painting was commissioned for their new home, and to celebrate the birth of their second son although the painting was never given to the Mona Lisa (Giocondo, in Italian) family .
