The First Thanksgiving by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe

Year: 1914Artist: Categories: , Tag:

It seems somehow poetic that the artist who painted The First Thanksgiving is a direct descendant of one of the first settlers.

The First Thanksgiving depicts the historic first gathering of colonialists and Native Americans in 1621 to give thanks for their first successful harvest.

Brownscombe later recreated the scene in a 1925 painting entitled “Thanksgiving at Plymouth.” In this painting, she addressed historical inaccuracies present in The First Thanksgiving.
