The murder of Jean-Paul Marat is a much-publicized event in art history, depicted by artists such as Edvard Munch, Santiago Rebull, and Paul Jacques Aimé Baudry, all of whom were inspired by Jacques-Louis David’s version of The Death of Marat.
In this artwork from Edvard Munch, we see Charlotte Corday, the woman who stabbed Marat with a kitchen knife, turning away from the body after she killed him. Corday did not flee the scene and was arrested for her crime.
Munch had several versions of the scene. Browse the gallery for more versions of The Death of Marat.
