Artist (Paul) Émile Vernon was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon (the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France) between 1898 and 1913. Included in his exhibitions were portraits of beautiful women he painted, such as the image called Starlight.
Although he painted mainly portraits, landscapes, and bouquets of flowers, his specialty and passion were in painting pretty women and children. A French 19th Century painter who was born in 1872, Émile Vernon’s artwork has realized good prices at auctions over the years.
Starlight depicts a young, beautiful woman in a sheer blouse with the starlight from above shining in her eyes, and shimmering in her blouse.
