Lament for Icarus by artist Herbert James Draper depicts a dying Icarus, surrounded by nymphs expressing grief. Here, we see the bird-of-paradise winged patterns of Icarus’ wings laid out as if in death.
Though this oil on canvas masterpiece was painted in 1898, it only achieved gold medal status in 1900, displayed at the Exposition Universelle in Paris the same year.
