Anxiety, created in 1894, is an ‘oil on canvas’ painting made by the artist Edvard Munch. It is now in the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway. many art critics feel that Anxiety is very much related to Munch’s more famous piece, The Scream (1893). The faces show despair and the dark colors show a depressed and sad state. Many critics also believe it’s meant to show the emotions of sorrow and heartbreak.
There are a wide range of colors used in this painting. Munch created a skyline with oranges and yellows, which leads into dark purples and backs on the ground. In the front of the painting are several people standing in a line on the Oslo bridge. There is a woman in front, but the people behind her all appear male. Many of the faces in the back are blurred out and everyone is wearing black with a hat.
