Dante and Virgil in Hell (also known as the Ninth Circle for the Traitors to the Country) is a painting by French academic artist Gustave Courtois. The painting depicts a scene from Dante’s Inferno, which is the first section of the Divine Comedy, considered one of the most notable works from poet and language theorist, Dante Alighieri.
