American rapper Tupac Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was just 25 years old at the time.
The drive-by shooting happened at 11:15 p.m. (PDT), while stopped at a red light. Four .40 caliber rounds fired from a Glock struck Shakur in the chest, the arm, and the thigh. Succumbing from his injuries, he died six days later.
By most reports, Shakur had attacked Orlando Anderson, a member of the Compton gang called the Southside Crips, a few hours earlier. It is said that Anderson, the prime suspect in the crime, fired the fatal shots. However, Anderson denied involvement in the murder and was never officially charged.
Ironically, he was killed in a gang-related shootout just two years later on May 29, 1998. Anderson was 23 at the time.
