The painting Girl Before Mirror done by Pablo Picasso was painted in 1932, and of his lover and inspiration at that time, Marie Therese Walter.
Some believe the painting shows her divided in two halves, on the brighter side, shows her as a mature woman, on the darker side, is her without makeup as a young woman and others believe that she is self-conscious and sees all her imperfections that the world doesn’t see in her.
Walter was painted many times throughout the 1930’s and he was very bold in how and what he painted. The couple stayed together for more that 10 years even after their daughter was born even though Walter wanted to get married. Eventually, she left him when he found a new muse by the name of Dora Maar
